How much does it cost?Absolutely nothing. We're happy to offer this event for free. We do have a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item.
-
Are you open on Halloween? No, we are only open the last Friday and Saturday in October.
-
Where does the donated food go?All food and cash donations are taken to the Montgomery County Food Bank.
-
I don't have a donation, can I still go through the haunted yard.Absolutely. If you'd like to drop off a donation later, you can. The Montgomery County Food Bank also has a link for direct donations.
-
Why aren't you open on Halloween anymore? The Haunted Yard started when the McPhie children were, well, children. We've all grown up and many of us have children of our own now, some of whom now participate in our tradition. It has become more difficult for us to put on the quality experience you enjoy while still being able to trick-or-treat with our own families. Rather than discontinue the tradition, we've decided to move it to a different date. We also hope this will allow us to incorporate new staff members who have been unable to attend in past years.
-
Can I bring my kids through early?Unfortunately, no. You can come stand in line earlier, but we don't start until 7pm. We will still be setting up the final exhibits and due to safety concerns, will not be able to allow guests in until everything is set up.
-
Can I go through more than once?Absolutely! If you want to go to the end of the line and go through additional times, you are welcome to do so. However, we will not be providing additional candy for repeat visits. As we near closing time we may ask repeat visitors to not go through again so that we can give everyone a chance to enjoy the festivities.
-
Should we wear costumes?Yes! We love seeing your costumes as much as we love scaring you out of them.
-
Are you still open if its raining? We are open rain or shine. However in the event of lightning strikes nearby, we may have to close for safety reasons. If lightning forces a closure, we will post notices on our social media sites as well as our website.
-
Is it ok for younger kids to go through? We won't stop you from bringing small children, but we wouldn't recommend it. Ultimately you know what your kids can handle. If you're wrong, there's lots of good child therapists in the area.
-
A member of our group has epilepsy, can they go through? We use multiple lighting effects including strobe lights, so we would not recommend that anyone with a history of photosensitive seizures attend. If you want to chance it, the nearest ambulance is about 6 minutes away, but Halloween is usually a pretty busy night for them.
-
Has anyone ever been so scared they've wet themselves?Yes, although most of them have been adults.
